The County Badminton Leagues ? sponsored by ACS Computers and Communications ? have just passed the half way point with everything still to play for when the competitions resume later this month.

Several teams in every division remain in contention to make the April finals to be held in GLTC. In Division 1, champions GLTC face a tough task to retain their crown. NUIG, backboned by Ross and Orla Creaven, are favourites while Oranmore's new acquisitions Colm Franks and Orla Bishop have boosted the club's chances of going one better than last year's final defeat. Maree are also in the running.

The Division 2 title looks to be Loughrea's to lose, having recorded three fine wins so far. But there is an interesting battle taking place for second with Mullagh hoping to edge out GLTC to join Loughrea in the final.

Division 3 is proving to be the most competitive of all with four of the six teams in contention. Oughterard have recorded four wins from five outings with Richard and Martin Gibbons playing very well. However they are not having it all their own way with Belclare and Loughrea on their heels and Claregalway, with two games in hand, could also make the final.

Division 4 is proving to be a two horse race with Oranmore A and B battling it out for the county title. Oranmore won the Division 5 title last season and have also recruited a number of new players at this level.

In Division 5 West, Oranmore lead the way but NUIG A and Oughterard will push them all the way. While in the East, Claregalway and Cortoon are battling it out at the top but may yet be challenged by Loughrea or Mullagh.
