The young footballers from the ranks of Salthill-Knocknacarra's juvenile age groups produced some fine, committed football during the finals of the I.F.A.S./John Daly sponsored Parish Leagues last Wednesday.

Ballymoneen and Devon pulled out all the stops in a heart-thumping final of the Under 11/12 competition. Cain Shaughnessy played a stormer for Devon and managed to nick a point in each half from the 45. Ballymoneen then had goals from Tommy McClean and Aaron Murtagh but "Shocks" got Devon back into the game with a neat penalty and another point.

In the Blackrock- Knocknacarra clash, Ronan Murphy and Niall King defended superbly throughout but a great goal scored by Niall Mulloy with the last kick of the game edged the contest for the Seasiders. Lorcan Breen had a great game for the Yellows as did Sean Kelly and John O'Grady, with Paul Butler and Morgan Hanley driving the Blackrock team on at all times.

Kingston found their scoring boots in the other encounter against Clybaun and managed to knock over a total of thirteen points, mostly from play. Cuan Caffrey and Eamon Conroy combined well in midfield while the likes of Michael Murray, Brion Lee and Ciaran Ward shone for the Clybaun outfit. The feisty Tomas Gavin garnered the "man-of-the-match" accolade.

In the Under 9/10 final, Kingston and Knocknacarra served up a pulsating game, where the play flowed from end to end, with Kingston emerging as the champions at the end of 30 minutes.

The other two games were thrillers, with Blackrock almost reeling in Devon who had built up a sizable lead at half-time and Clybaun, who finished the tournament very strongly, getting the better of Ballymoneen.

At the end of the evening, medals were presented by Salthill-Knocknacarra and Galway full-back, Finian Hanley.
