Former Formula 1 driver Eddie Irvine's new football club are the latest entrants in the this year's Umbro Galway Cup.

Bangor-based Eddie Irvine Sports FC has taken over Holywood Boys FC, who competed in the 2006 and 2007 Umbro Cup at various age groups, with a view to improving and promoting the players and club. The new club's main aim is to develop the youth players over the years into a senior team that would compete in the Irish League.

The Eddie Irvine Sports FC team will compete in the U14 group which includes teams such as St. Francis of the DDSL (runners-up in this year's SFAI Cup), Westport United, DDSL Major side Crumlin United, Hibs, and SFAI Cup semi-finalists Salthill Devon.

The Umbro Cup is the leading underage international soccer tournament in Ireland, taking place from August 5-9th in Salthill Devon FC, Drom Soccer Park.
