The Galwayman wants fans to throng Ennis on Sunday and help the Bannermen reach what would be only their fourth Munster final in 60 years. Doherty believes his side can take Limerick in Sunday's Munster semi-final at Cusack Park and set up a final date with either Cork or Kerry. “It is a glorious chance to make a rare appearance in a Munster final and I would appeal to Clare GAA fans to make the effort and give that backing to the side in their bid to get there. "This is a young Clare side and while we know Limerick will be fancied after the way they put Tipperary away, it would be great for football in the county to reach another Munster final," said Doherty, who led Caltra to their only county title and then All-Ireland glory in 2004.. Clare, who will be without captain Conor Whelan who is out with a knee injury, have not been in a Munster final since they went down to Kerry on a 3-15 to 0-8 scoreline in 2000. Three years earlier they lost to Kerry by 1-13 to 0-11, having stunned the Kingdom to win their first title since their only other success in 1917. |
