Galway 1-18 The array of talent available to Ger Loughnane was underlined when a Galway development squad made short work in the final of the Connacht Hurling League of a GMIT side preparing for the Fitzgibbon Cup. The Galway development squad, coached by All-Ireland winning U-21 boss Vincent Mullins, were far too superior for the students during a league final that boiled over a few times at Kenny Park in Athenry on Saturday. Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology finished with just thirteen players after centre-back Brian Regan and wing-forward Conor Hynes being sent off by referee Michael Haverty. Galway were always on top, leading by 0-9 to 0-5 at half-time having played against the wind, although their lead would have been less had James Skehill not produced a stunning save to deny Conor Kavanagh. Galway dominated in the second-half with the wind at their backs and picked off some fine points before Paul Killilea scored the only goal of the game six minutes from the end.
