The cost of Saturday's defeat to Clare became apparent 24 hours later when Galway were drawn to face All-Ireland champions Kilkenny in the quarter-finals.

It was the worst possible draw for Galway who -- presuming they defeat Antrim next weekend and Clare account for Laois -- will have the unenviable task of meeting Brian Cody's men later this month.

But first Galway must see off Antrim next Saturday at Pearse Stadium -- with manager Ger Loughnane saying they can take nothing for granted at this stage.

Loughnane has threatened to quit if Galway produce another lifeless display like the one which saw them fall in Ennis on Saturday night.

Loughnane was livid with the way Galway folded to his native Clare and has said that he will walk the next time there is such an inept display.

"Every team I have ever sent out has played with heart and commitment. That is the first thing you ask for and expect. But it wasn't there and I will walk if it happens again.

"Now the match against Antrim has become the most important of the year. And make no mistake about it they will turn us over if we play like that.

"I thought the backs played well and conceding 2-10 in a championship match is not bad, but we did not build on that," he said.

Presuming the formguide holds, Galway will meet Kilkenny in the quarter-finals with Clare facing Limerick.

The winners of the Cork v Tipperary qualifier this weekend will play Wexford, with the losers meeting new Munster champions Waterford.
