Championship favourites Corofin advanced to the semi-finals of the Galway SFC with a comprehensive win over a disappointing Maigh Cuilinn side at Pearse Stadium.

Powered by four Galway defenders, Michael Comer, Damien Burke, Kieran Fitzgerald and Gary Sice, Corofin took some time to settle and were just a point ahead, 0-4 to 0-3, at the break.

But it was a different story though in the second period as they took complete control.

They stretched their advantage to three points by the three-quarter stage thanks to fine scores by Gary Sice, Aidan Donnellan, Alan O’Donovan and Joe Canney with Gearoid Clancy and Philip Lydon finding the target at the other end to keep Moycullen in touch.

Moycullen, who badly missed the services of Galway midfielder Mark Lydon, had plenty of possession at times but were unable to break down Corofin’s rock solid defence.

Corofin moved into overdrive as the game progressed and conceded only one point, fittingly scored by Moycullen’s best forward Philip Lydon, in the final quarter.

They added 1-5 to their own total with Joe Canney’s superbly taken injury time goal putting a gloss on the scoreline.
