Galway selector Joe Connolly has issued an impassioned plea for supporters to come out and support the team in their historic voyage in the Leinster championship — because nobody wants them there. The former All-Ireland winning captain said it would be difficult for Galway as they move into new territory.

"We are going into Leinster and nobody wants us there. But this is a new development for everyone and I hope Galway supporters come out and get behind the side. "This current team is as good and as proud as any who have worn the jersey and they deserve support, especially going into a new area.

"But we are in Leinster whether people like it or not and I would Galway people to fill up the cars and head for Portlaoise," said Connolly, who was speaking at the launch of the Galway Hurling Supporters Club on Saturday night.

Galway will open their Leinster campaign on Sunday fortnight against Laois and Connolly is pleading with supporters to rally round the team. "The squad have prepared diligently and we want to give a good account of ourselves in Leinster and to do that we need the people of Galway behind us," said Connolly.
