With Community Games activity reaching its busiest period in the coming weeks, Galway Community Games organisers have appealed for new participants to join the growing numbers taking part in the prestigious annual events.

There are already 250 entrants in the cross-country competition set to be held in the Palace Grounds, Tuam on March 2nd. But organisers will accept entries up until Saturday March 1st, in a bid to ensure the maximum field possible on the day.

Interest has also soared in the soccer tournament, with Claregalway Lackagh claiming victory in the U-13 and U-15 sections, beating Glenamaddy and Killererin respectively in last week's finals.

One competition where participation has been lower than expected is in the rugby events. Galway has not competed at national level in rugby or tag rugby over the last few years and the Community Games committee have appealed to any players with interest in competing this year to contact Rita Mannion on 091 635441 or Pat Hansberry on 086 6099603.

Rita Mannion will also accept entries for the Talent Competition in Abbeyknockmoy on March 28th and the closing date has been extended to March 14th.

Other upcoming events include:
Draughts: 24th February, Ballygar Hall
Chess: 1st March, Guillanes, Ballinasloe
Girls Indoor Soccer: 4th March, Ballygar
Art & Modelmaking: 8th March, Ballinasloe
Table Quiz: March 7th, Venue TBC
Choir: Date TBC, Labane
