Galway senior Cormac Bane hit eight points and county minor Oisin O'Brien landed four for Caherlistrane, with Michael Meehan scoring a late penalty to reduce the margin.

And reigning champions Killererin will have to meet Moycullen again after extra-time failed to separate the sides at Pearse Stadium. Padraic Joyce was outstanding for the holders but the All-Ireland intermediate champions were good value for their draw, with county player Gareth Bradshaw slotting home the only goal with a penalty.

Paul Clancy was one of Moycullen's many stars and they will fancy their chances of ousting the holders in the replay.

Promoted Monivea/Abbey created a shock against the most prolific winners of the Galway crown, with Brian McDonagh and Cathal Coleman landing late points to edge out Tuam Stars after the sides had been level seven times.

Monivea/Abbey, for whom Rory O'Neill was superb, introduced several underage players to senior football with great success.

An Cheathru Rua won the south Connemara derby when they edged out Micheal Breathnachs by 2-13 to 3-9 - one of four games which went to extra-time over the weekend.

Two other former All-Ireland champions eased their way into the second round with Corofin scoring a 2-18 to 1-4 win on Sunday night over Menlough, while Salthill-Knocknacarra defeated Killanin by 1-14 to 1-8.

Kieran Comer struck for the first of his two goals in the opening half as Jimmy Sice's men opened up an interval lead of 1-6 to 0-2 before they ran riot after the restart.

Salthill, in rebuilding mode, had only about one-third of the side which won the All-Ireland club title two years ago but still had too much firepower for Killanin.

Killanin started well and a Patrick Sweeney goal helped them build a 1-3 to 0-1 lead, but Maurice Sheridan and Sean Armstrong were prominent as Salthill took control to score 1-9 without reply - Conor Healy getting the goal.

Former All-Star Derek Savage was superb as Cortoon Shamrocks created a minor shock with a 1-12 to 1-10 win over Annaghdown, with Micheal Martyn getting them on their way with an early goal before Wesley Fallon set up a late Annaghdown rally with a well-taken finish.

Martin Kelly struck late equalisers at the end of normal time and extra-time as Claregalway twice came back to level with St Brendan's, while extra-time was also required as Mountbellew-Moylough edged out Kilkerrin-Clonberne by 1-8 to 1-7, with Joe Meehan getting the only score of extra-time.

Last year's runners-up Milltown made it through to the second round with county player Darren Mullahy scoring 1-5 in their 1-10 to 1-6 win over a Barna side who got a great start with a Kieran Hanley goal.
