Blarney (Cork) 2-14 Cappataggle (Galway) 1-11 Galway Intermediate hurling champions Cappataggle failed in their bid to capture All-Ireland glory when they went down to Blarney of Cork in Croke Park on Sunday last. Cappy were slow to settle and Blarney had fired over five points in the opening ten minutes with one reply from an Alan Dolan free the sole reply. During that period the Cappataggle inside forward line were playing too far from goal and any attack was quickly suffocated. After captain Michael Broderick fired over a marvellous free from 90 yards, the Galway champions came to life and Alan Dolan struck over three quick points to bring the game to parity. Colin Murphy who was Blarney’s most dangerous player swapped a further point with Damien Joyce, but the Cork side were 0-9 to 0-7 ahead at the break. Outscoring the Blarney side Cappy had the deficit down to a point, but Colin Murphy struck for a Cork goal. However, Damien Joyce blasted a free to the Blarney net two minutes later to revive hopes. Ninety seconds later Blarney hit back and Ross McNamara finished the ball to the net and ended all Cappy dreams of glory.
