The selection of the new Galway football boss moved a step close last night after members of the Galway County Board met to discuss the vacancy.
Former manager Liam Sammon stepped down in the aftermath of Galway's exit from this year's championship to Donegal and the narrow Connacht final loss to Mayo the previous week.
Such names as Kerry legend Mick O'Dwyer, former Mayo and Roscommon boss John Maughan, ex-Salthill/Knocknacarra boss Eoin O’Donnellan and former Clare and Caltra manager Frank Doherty are among the favourites to land the position, but according to Chairman of the Football board, John Joe Holloran, a decision has yet to be made.
"We are meeting this week to discuss the format that we will take," said Holloran. "A decision has yet to be reached for the job, but we will meet on Tuesday (last night) to discuss plans."
