Full-time: Kilkenny 3-6 Galway 0-13 Man of the match: Declan Connolly. The Galway corner back more than anyone else held the Kilkenny attack. While Kilkenny scored three goals Connolly could hold little blame but played a quality role in stopping the Kilkenny attack. Score of the match: The score of the game came six minutes from the end of the opening half when Kilkenny midfielder Cathal Kenny struck over a sublime sideline cut with precision directly over the black spot. Like Galway’s Ger Farragher and Joe Canning displayed in previous minor finals, it is a supreme skill and was the score of the game. Miss of the Match: Just at the start of the second half with Kilkenny goalkeeper committed the ball break kindly to Niall Burke, but the Galway attacker mishit the ball with an empty net in front of him and the chance was gone. Turning point: Galway had at least two good point scoring chances that went astray when the Tribesmen held on to a two point lead. Had they scored these they would likely have put Kilkenny away, but lack of finishing power left Kilkenny in the game and when an attack broke up through over passing, Kilkenny burst forward and Danny Brennan broke through for a point to leave one in it. Kilkenny went chasing for the equaliser and ended up with a goal to win the game. Talking point: Galway’s concession of two soft goals in the opening half handed the tile to Kilkenny but why didn’t they finish off the cats when they regained the lead. How can a team who doesn’t score for 26 minutes in the second half win an All Ireland final? What happens next?: Defeat for Galway as Kilkenny were crowned All Ireland champions for the 19th time.
