An Cheathru Rua 0-14, Claregalway 0-4 An Cheathru Rua booked a place in the quarter-finals of the Galway SFC when they finally saw off the challenge of Claregalway by 0-14 to 0-4 in a second replay at Pearse Stadium on Sunday evening. The Connemara side set the foundation for victory in the opening half when they had the strong wind at their back and with Ciaran and Cilin de Paor - younger brothers of former Galway star Sean - in superb form they opened up a 0-11 to 0-2 interval lead. Claregalway were not able to make the same use of the elements in the second-half as An Cheathru Rua closed them down and they managed just a couple of points from Naill McGovern and Enda O'Connell to add to first-half efforts from Martin Kelly and Daniel Cummins. Ciaran de Paor socred 0-8, five from frees with Cilin kicking four and Niall O Briain landing two. They will now meet Caherlistrane in the quarter-finals the weekend after next. In the other quarter-finals Salthill/Knocknacarra will meet Cortoon Shamrocks, Maigh Cullin face Corofin and NUIG will face last year's beaten finalists Milltown. An Cheathru Rua: Ciaran de Paor 0-8, five frees; Cilin de Paor 0-4, one free; N O Briain 0-2. Claregalway: M Kelly 0-1; D Cummins 0-1; N McGovern 0-1; E O'Connell 0-1, 45. |
