Salthill, the parish where some of us reside was host to three most interesting and diverse sporting events all on the one day last Friday. They gathered at Galway Golf Club for the Suzuki All Ireland Senior Cup quarter-finals. And in particular to see the 13 year old Maguire identical twins from the Slieve Russell club in action, perhaps the phenomenon of golf in Ireland today. Not only did they provide great viewing 'ah just to see them hit the ball' but one of them provided the drama of the day.

The misty rain that flowed down for the All Ireland intermediate camogie semi-final on Saturday in Semple Stadium didn't stop the ladies from displaying a dash of colour. At different ends along the sideline were long time Kilkenny camogie servant Anne Downey, holder of twelve All Ireland medals with Kilkenny and current manager of Kilkenny intermediate camogie side and Galway long serving official Ann Kearney each edging their team on.

The Cats were on the prowl and Galway hurling followers left Semple Stadium in Thurles shattered and wondering what the future is for Galway hurling at adult level, as Kilkenny gave the Tribesmen a lesson in the Bord Gais All Ireland Under 21 semi final on Saturday.
