Kernan delighted with good news on Meehan

Galway boss Joe Kernan, whose side face Tyrone in Tuam Stadium on Sunday (2.30pm) received a huge boost with news that forward Michael Meehan has not suffered a serious knee injury. "He saw the specialist and had an MRI this morning (Tuesday). He has a small tear to his medial ligament and bruising to the bone but thankfully it is not the cruciate ligament.

Portumna face Ballyhale Shamrocks in today's All-Ireland senior club hurling championship final in Croke Park and will aim to become the first club side to put three All-Ireland titles back to back, while claiming their fourth Tommy Moore Cup in five years. Revenge will be on the minds of the Kilkenny champions who were well beaten by the Galway champions who put five goals past Ballyhale en route to last year's final against De La Salle.

The hurlers faced Tipperary full of confidence, the footballers had great hopes against the All-Ireland champions, Mervue and Salthill Devon had chances to claim wins, but it was left to Sean Connor's Galway United to claim the sole win for the county's big teams.

Galway Under-21s launch their Connacht championship campaign today (Wednesday) with a home semi-final against Denis Johnson's Sligo in Tuam Stadium (4pm). Made up from much of the All-Ireland winning minor side of 2007, Galway will enter the tie as red-hot favourites, but Alan Mulholland's side will need to be wary of a dangerous Sligo team.
