An Taoiseach Mr Brian Cowen TD was on hand to drive a new Smith electric powered Ford Transit van when he officially opened new premises of Avia Trucks Ireland in Tullamore, Co. Offaly. The company is owned by Clara couple David and Anna Marie Mullen who have operated the franchise for Avia Commercial Vehicles in Ireland for the last number of years.

Euro NCAP has released the updated results of its EU-wide Electronic Stability Control (ESC) availability survey that uncovers the disparities in which ESC is offered to car-buyers across the European Union. This year’s survey reveals that there is improvement by some manufacturers, but Euro NCAP is disappointed to find that there are still large discrepancies in the level of standard fit on offer to consumers between countries and size categories.

With global sales of 3,961,629 units in 2007, the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group is now the world’s fifth largest automaker moving up from sixth place in 2006, according to Automotive News' 2008 Global Market Data Book published recently.

With the changes to Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) and annual road tax Citroen now claims to offer the Irish motorist the widest choice of cars in Band A, cars with 120g/km CO² emissions or less, with from superminis to family hatchbacks, including a true hot hatch, the 119g/km C2 VTS and a sporty Coupe in the C4 Coupe. A choice of 9 cars in all across the C1, C2, C3, C4 Coupe and C4 Hatchback ranges.

Seat has revealed prices for the forthcoming new Ibiza 5-door, which will be in dealers’ showrooms in early July. The new car boasts a new chassis, longer wheelbase, more headroom and a bigger boot. The sporty new ‘Arrow design’ concept was created by ex-Lamborghini designer Luc Donckerwolke.
