Continental and Siemens Automotive join forces

The German based Continental tyre company has announced that it is to buy the Siemens VDO Automotive AG from Siemens for €11.4 billion. The deal puts Continental among the top five worldwide in this industry. The deal provides Continental with the opportunity to become a global frontrunner in the automotive supplier sector. It pools skills and experience of both companies in key market segments like safety, chassis, powertrain systems and telematics/infotainment.

T-Jet boosts Fiat Grande Punto performance

Fiat has boosted the engine power of its Grande Punto model with the arrival of the new Grande Punto 1.4 16v T-jet 120.  The newcomer produces impressive performance and great driving enjoyment, hardly surprising from an engine putting out 120bhp, delivering torque of 206 Nm (152 lb ft) @ 2000 rpm, a top speed of 195 km/h and acceleration from 0 – 100 km/h in just 8.9 seconds.

Eighty per cent of road workers have been verbally or physically abused by motorists, according to a survey carried out in the UK by the RAC Foundation. Forty per cent of workers are abused on either a daily or weekly basis.

Kia cee'd now a three-door option

Kia has released the first preview of its new Kia three-door hatchback model which will make its World Premiere at this year's Frankfurt International Motor Show on 11 September. The new model will be named Pro-cee'd. Based closely on the earlier 'pro_cee'd' concept shown at the Paris Motor Show in 2006, the new production model has been developed by Kia's design team in Europe under the direction of Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer.
 
Toyota strong in Euro first half

Toyota Motor Europe sold a total of 661,753 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the period from January to June 2007, an increase of 14% over the same period in 2006. The overall European car market was up approximately 2.2%.
