Nissan has launched its new X-Trail model with more styling but a safe design that gives minimal change over the older model. Nissan claims that the new X-Trail gives a blend of sophisticated on-road ride with real off-road ability, supported by class-leading integrated safety and electronic dynamic technology.

Fiat’s new Fiorino aims to lower van costs

Fiat Professional, the commercial vehicle division of the Fiat Group, has unveiled a new light van, built in partnership with PSA Peugeot Citroen. The new Fiat Fiorino light van project set out to create a van with smaller external dimensions compared to other similar vans while offering the same load capacity and serviceability, plus reduced running costs and all at very attractive price.

The history of the first Ford factory outside North America is chronicled in a new book launched recently in Cork. “Are you still below?”, written by Miriam Nyhan, charts the fortunes of the Marina plant in Cork through the burning of the city, the birth of the new state, civil, economic and world wars, and entry into the EEC. The book was launched by Cork hurling star Sean Óg ÓhAlpín.

The candidates for the Semperit Irish Car of the Year 2008 have been announced by the Irish Motoring Writers Association (IMWA).  The winning car will be revealed at a ceremony in the new Radisson Hotel, Golden Lane, Dublin 8 on Thursday, 29 November, 2007.
 
Over inflating your tyres can pose a serious safety threat

TyreSafe, the UK based tyre safety organisation says that over inflated tyres can reduce the tyre’s contact patch on the road making a skid more likely. TyreSafe research commissioned for tyre safety month indicated that almost three quarters of the cars on UK roads have tyres that are under-inflated, however, a significant proportion also have at least one tyre that is over-inflated. The smaller contact patch, in addition to reducing grip, also makes for a harsher ride as well as handling problems and increased wear rates leading to earlier replacement of the tyre.

Almost half of company car drivers (45.6 per cent) on UK roads have not had an eyesight test in the last three years, and nearly 30 per cent have not had their sight tested in the past five years, or at all.
