Concern at association between abortion and breast cancer
Wednesday, 09 January 2008

Dear Editor,
I read with interest Eilis Nig Raollaigh's letter on Wednesday 19 December 2007 regarding the potential association between abortion and breast cancer. I agree that women who feel that they are at increased risk of breast cancer, whether real or perceived, should seek appropriate medical advice. I am concerned, however by the anxiety that might be generated by the letter among women who have had either a spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) or an induced abortion (termination).

Wednesday, 09 January 2008

Dear Editor,
The Park and Ride has finished for the second year and both years have been a flop.

Galway Alliance Against War double standard
Wednesday, 02 January 2008

Dear Editor,
Just thought that I would bring to the attention of your readers the fact that over the weekend (15/16 Dec) there was a formidable Russian naval battle group sailing down the west coast of Ireland on route to the Mediterranean.

Thank you for being a voice
Wednesday, 02 January 2008

Dear Editor,
The Making Galway Proud Initiative would like to thank the people and businesses of Galway who have made their 2007 campaign for Speech & Occupational Therapy for Downs Syndrome Galway group 'Voices For Galway'. Although there is three more events left in the campaign, the initiative have been overwhelmed yet again by the support of the people of Galway.

Muppet show continues at City Hall
Wednesday, 02 January 2008

Dear Editor,
I suppose in a way it is quite fitting that the last council meeting before Christmas should be abandoned. Yet again due to a lack of procedural measures to deal with disruptive meetings the opportunity to conduct council business is lost.

Air show planes for display purposes only?
Wednesday, 19 December 2007

Dear Editor,
Councillor Michael Crowe, who would like to save the air show, is quoted as saying 'The people of Galway don't cause the war and these planes are for display purposes only'. No we don't cause the war, we only live off it (or look forward to living off it) at any rate, and we let our rulers arrange for us to live off it.

Breast Cancer Epidemic
Wednesday, 19 December 2007

Dear Editor,
While there has been much discussion recently on the treatment of cancer and in particular breast cancer, there has not been enough discussion on the causes.

Enable Ireland thank you
Wednesday, 19 December 2007

A chara,
I am writing to thank your readers most sincerely for supporting the work of Enable Ireland in Galway this year. As a local voluntary organisation, we rely heavily on the generosity, goodwill and support of many people, organisations and businesses in our community to continue to provide and develop essential services for children and adults with disabilities in Galway.

Council Housing Policy cares for citizens
Wednesday, 19 December 2007

Dear Editor,
I wish to respond to the anonymous letter published in the Independent of 12 December, 2007 regarding Galway City Council's housing policy. Firstly, like your letter writer, the majority of City Council tenants are also law-abiding and hard-working taxpayers. The number of Council tenants "who never worked a day in their life and never will" is only a small minority of the total.
