O Brolchain omitted some of facts on Deirdre De Burca resignation
Wednesday, 10 March 2010

Dear Editor,
Niall O Brolchain gave a very 'simplistic' summary in your article of Wednesday 17 February. He is guilty of omitting crucial facts in the story of why Deirdre De Burca quit the greens and Seanad Eireann.

Home match at Emirates?
Wednesday, 10 March 2010

Dear Editor,
At a time when people are resigning left, right and centre, I have never seen so many different bodies deny responsibility for the fiasco of Ireland playing a 'home friendly' with Brazil in London. Surely between them, the FAI, the GAA, Minister for Sport Martin Cullen and Kentaro could have made this happen at Croke Park.

Children's rights must be recognised as those of separate individuals
Wednesday, 10 March 2010

Dear Editor,
The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) agrees that the upbringing of children is, in most cases, best left to the parents and that the various family support services should assist, and not supplant, parents in this vital nurturing task.

Reusing the tent
Wednesday, 10 March 2010

Dear Editor,
Since the Galway tent has been mothballed, perhaps it could be resurrected and pitched beside Hanger Six in Dublin Airport for RyanAir. The Government would be seen to be creating employment and pro-recycling, i.e. reusing the old tent. Obviously, it would need to be extended to accommodate RyanAir's 737s.

No firm solution to unruly tenant problem
Wednesday, 03 March 2010

Dear Editor,
This letter comes in response to previous letters in relation to unruly neighbours. This is a common problem throughout the island of Ireland and, at present, there is no procedure to identify the owners of these properties.

Grave risk to local education with abolition of VECs
Wednesday, 03 March 2010

Dear Editor,
I wish to bring your readers attention to the grave risk to local education services as a result of the Government's intention to abolish Vocational Education Committees (VECs) throughout the country. This follows the recommendations of the McCarthy Report last year, which has been employed by this Government as a blunt and brutish instrument that is set to cut the heart out of local services in the coming months.

Condemning moronic behaviour
Wednesday, 03 March 2010

Dear Editor,
What possesses people to tip over rubbish bins in the middle of the night?
Just before 3am this morning (Tuesday 23 February), I was awoken to the sound of a bin crashing to the ground while some yahoo whooped and shouted and raced up the road. I knew it had to be my bin! Of all the bins in Newcastle, it had to be mine.

Stroke services grossly inadequate
Wednesday, 03 March 2010

Dear Editor,
The Irish Heart Foundation has launched a campaign to secure better services for the 10,000 people who have a stroke in this country each year. Although stroke is Ireland's third biggest killer and our biggest cause of acquired disability, services in most places are grossly inadequate.

Greens have not lost values; they have buried them
Wednesday, 17 February 2010

Dear Editor,
Let's face it. The Green Party is now little more than the bordello of Irish politics - you pay, the harlot performs. She does so at the whim of the punter and repeats it just so long as he pays. The manner of their Machiavellian march into Dail Eireann under Gormley rather than Sergeant amply demonstrated their lust for the whiff of power. Principals were for losers.

Time to make landlords accountable
Wednesday, 17 February 2010

Dear Editor,
I am in full agreement with Ms Nuala Nolan's letter of last week (Wednesday 10 February). As it stands today in Ireland, if a house owned by an landlord is causing problems, be it antisocial, bad state of repair etc, it is virtually impossible to find out who owns it.
