A new €2 million nursing and midwifery library has been opened at NUI Galway.
The new library, which adjoins the James Hardiman Library on the main campus, has been open for business since last July and provides a modern learning environment for over 700 nursing and midwifery students with group study rooms, computer suites, laptop-enabled study spaces, and wireless access to the university's networked services.

Over 30 family carers throughout Galway are actively participating in a European Commission research project aimed at improving training systems and good practices in the provision of care in the home.
Ireland's participation in the Leonardo da Vinci Cosefamie Project is now entering its second year with partners from France, Corsica, Italy, Sicily, Slovakia, Belgium and Spain.

A new service providing community based professional counselling and psychotherapy is to be launched next Tuesday.
Based in Ballybane Enterprise Centre, Galway Community Counselling will offer low cost counselling services based on a sliding scale depending on clients' circumstances.

Galway City Partnership in collaboration with Blueprint Coaching & Training has developed a new part-time morning specifically aimed at lone parents.
Starting on Wednesday 10 March, the 'Employment Studies Course', is ideally suited to individuals who began a third level course but were unable to complete it due to family commitments and are now considering further studies, getting back into the workplace or self employment.

Ballybane Enterprise Centre's spring courses include a variety of short evening classes across a range of disciplines.
Enrolments are now being accepted for the classes, which include topics such as healthy living, cooking, organic gardening, computers, languages, self-defence and personal development.

Aras na nGael will shortly introduce a new monthly traditional music session for children and teenagers.
The session will be hosted by fiddle player and experienced teacher Anna Falkenau and is directed at teenagers who are of intermediate or advanced performance level. All instruments are welcome.

With the deadline for the CAO passing on Monday, there is very little time to change choices.
Students are also busy getting ready for the mock exams and Leaving Cert exam, so not as much time is put in by students into the change of mind form.
The Galway Careers Clinic (GCC) believes the CAO form is possibly the most important form a person will ever complete.

All the Atlantic College students who recently sat the ACCA Certified Accounting Technician exams were successful. Atlantic has recently announced details of the college's spring programme of part-time courses to begin mid-February. There are 13 courses in all, in the areas of childcare, Social Studies, Business and Accounting.

Digital media students in Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) are to hold an open day on Monday 22 February to showcase new developments in website design and computer art.
Second and third year students will display a number of digital media projects they have developed over the past 18 months as part of their B.Sc. in Digital Media and Business Computing.

A Government supported initiative that promotes Irish among adults has expanded its network of Irish language evening classes.
Including Galway, Gaelchultur is now providing 40 classes in 13 locations throughout Ireland, as there has been a fourfold increase in the number of adults attending Gaelchultur's classes since they were first offered in 2004.
