A 5km fundraising walk in aid of Spiorad Shaidhbh in Rinville Park has been rescheduled for Sunday, 30 March at 12pm. The original walk at Christmas time had to be cancelled due to high winds and stormy conditions.
Spiorad Shaidhbh was set up by the parents, family and friends of Sadhbh Ní Bhrádaigh, an 18 year old student from Oranmore who died from pneumococcal meninigitis on Christmas night 2009.
Spiorad Shaidhbh is, as its name suggests, a charitable organisation that aims to embody the spirit of the person it is named after. Sadhbh was a young woman full of energy and fun with a great sense of wit and humour. She wore her heart on her sleeve and was quick to come to the defence of those she felt were not being treated fairly or getting their fair share in life. It is with these qualities in mind that Spiorad Shaidhbh was founded as a means of honouring her memory through fundraising and organising a series of small acts of kindness that hopefully will improve the lives of others in the local community.
Sadhbh’s Wish List is a list of small acts of kindness and it is hoped that one wish per year over the next five years will be fulfilled. The fundraising walk on Sunday hopes to raise funds for the first wish, which is to refurbish the family rooms at University Hospital Galway used by those who have loved ones in the HDU and ICU units. Much of the work on the family rooms has been completed and the refurbished rooms will be officially opened next month.
People attending the walk are asked to assemble at 11.45am at the upper car park in Rinville Park. Donations can be made at www.idonate.ie or on the day in Rinville Park.
