Belwood, Ballinahalla, Moycullen, Co. Galway The owners of this wooded site, together with a Dublin-based architectural firm, created this unique family residence. Inspired by its woodland setting, the architect planned the entire home either incorporating or meticulously arranging the immediate landscape around the existing trees. Each space created empathises with its surroundings and every room optimises the views of the idyllic natural woodland. ![]() This house of generous living accommodation 3,000 square foot was built on three different levels with the front façade of each level boasting a different contour; cedar wood panelling, white painted finish and natural limestone. The natural limestone continues internally to create a feature wall in the entrance hallway. A grand entrance doorway with large glass panel lets the natural light flow into this area, giving a warm and welcoming ambiance. The stairs is made from solid ash and specially commissioned wrought iron railing and leads to the first floor master quarters. The entrance hallway leads to the handcrafted 'Chalon' style partially painted kitchen of ash, oak and cherry wood with granite worktops, central island and high quality fittings. A luxurious wall-to-wall window with cushioned seat is positioned in the kitchen with access to a private decking area - framed by the picturesque backdrop. There is also a separate seating area that is divided by a breakfast counter, which overlooks the front decking area. The basement level utility can also be accessed via the kitchen. Ascending the stairs to the master quarters, you are immediately enveloped by an air of serenity, style and grandeur. The bedroom features a wall-to-wall window, which provides the artistic element - a beautifully framed ever-changing woodland scene. Continuing through an archway to the dressing room and then onto the walk in wardrobe and elegant en suite shower room. This en suite is complete with a custom made double vanity unit with under-mounted sinks and marble surround. The entire room is tiled in marble and hosts a double shower/steam room. The mezzanine office, which is stepped down off the bedroom, is a great use of space and provides an excellent calm area from where to work or relax. Downstairs, to the right of the entrance hallway you access the sleeping quarters through the limestone archway. Four bedrooms (one of which is en suite) with semi-solid walnut flooring, each of which is finished with the same flair and style that can be found throughout this dwelling. Two of these rooms have high vaulted ceilings and all bedrooms have the exceptional feature of having a full-length wall of glass with exit door to the rear garden and rambling walkways. A good-sized French country style bathroom, incorporating freestanding bath, Merlyn quadrant shower, and custom made white sanitary ware with tongue and grove panelling and American shutters, completes the exquisite design.
