Despite the slowdown of the property market, there are still people seeking homes in Connemara, either for holiday or retirement. Shrewd buyers are getting excellent value for money at the moment, as sellers' expectations become more realistic. Frank Conroy Auctioneers feel that the properties they are offering for sale by auction on 12 September at the Menlo Park Hotel in Galway, will represent the best value of the year. The agents say that very reasonable reserves are being put on the properties in order to ensure a sale. Some of the properties are executor sales and they expect a lively interest. There are four properties coming up for auction (unless previously sold) and all of them need work to a greater or lesser degree. The cottage at Na Minna, Inverin has a lovely view over Galway Bay and stands on an acre of ground. It's within half an hour of Galway and about five minutes drive from Spiddal village. There are several excellent beaches in the area and the airport serving the Aran Islands is close by. The accommodation consists entrance porch, kitchen, living room, three-bedrooms and a bathroom. The property at Doireen Daireach, Lettermore is quiet a spacious dormer on half an acre. It needs a considerable amount of refurbishment but, the auctioneers say, "The price is right". Again there are good sea views and good beaches very close by in the Trá Bán area. The accommodation consists entrance hall, living room, kitchen, six-bedrooms and a bathroom. Lettermore is an older style bungalow and needs complete renovation. It too has lovely sea views and the beaches are close. It has a floor space of about 1,000 square foot laid out as a sitting room, kitchen and three bedrooms. In contrast to the other three properties, Liscard House is a town property located in Oughterard. It is within 200 metres of the landmark bridge at Oughterard and all amenities are on hand. The property is sound structurally but does require internal upgrading. It stands on ¼ of an acre of land in an area, which is zoned, residential and therefore there is also development potential. The accommodation consists living room, kitchen, study, three-bedrooms, bathroom and shower room. There are pleasant gardens to front and rear. There is a large garage workshop to the rear of the property. The property has mains water, electricity and sewage. There is PVC double-glazing and oil-fired central heating.
