Ballyvaughan Village, Co. Clare This detached period residence, built in 1855, with outbuildings/court yard and distinctive period features is up for auction on Friday 4 July at 3pm, in the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon. This old residence is over 150 years old and would require complete renovation. It is stone built with ornate style plaster rendering, slate roof with felt underlay, traditional sash windows and hardwood doors. The property stands on a large 0.3534-acre, which contains two arch stone-built outbuildings, without roof. It is totally unique to get a period style-residence on such a large site, for sale in this harbour village and viewing is strongly recommended. Ballyvaughan in County Clare is a fishing and farming village on the West Coast and is situated in one of the most idyllic places in Ireland, nestled between the hills of the Burren and the sea, as well as the southern shores of Galway Bay. Formerly a fishing port, the harbour of Ballyvaughan is now mainly used for pleasure craft and sporting activities. Today, this village is a thriving tourism centre with a definite air of prosperity. The accommodation comprises an entrance hall, sitting room, kitchen, utility, bathroom and storeroom, as well as a further sitting room and five bedrooms. The property was built in 1855 for the Clark of Ballyvaughan Union. This was occupied by the permanent Clerk, until independence was gained in 1921. The last person to work there was Thomas Comyn. It then became part of the McNamara estate. It was then owned by the Convent of Mercy and occupied by some elderly nuns, while Fr Jimmy O Dea who was a native of Kilfenora was trustee. It was then bought by the Carter Family and it is being sold by a relative of the Carters.
