The Deadline for filing Local Property Tax (LPT) returns has been extended until 5pm tomorrow, Friday, 29 November, due to “ unprecedented volume” of calls to the LPT Helpline, the Revenue Commissioners has announced.
Over €215 million has been collected nationally from over 870,000 properties to date, with figures in excess of €3.7 and €6.7 million have been collected in Galway City and County, respectively.
The Revenue Commissioners says it has experienced an “exceptional level of filing” over the past two days, and the extension of the filing deadline will allow Revenue to implement the individual’s preferred payment option for 2014.
The LPT helpline, 1890-200-255 will be open from 8am to 8pm today and from 8am on Friday.
Any taxpayer that has submitted a genuine query – whether by email, letter or voicemail to the helpline – in respect of their 2014 obligations in advance of the filing date will be treated as having complied with their requirements on time.
Revenue has warned, however, that for this treatment to apply, the individuals must file their return promptly when that query is resolved.
