Name: Naomi Fox Naomi Fox is busy just now. Last week the TV cameras from Montrose came over to Galway to record VT for the All-Ireland talent show. The cameras stayed longer than expected and Naomi Fox didn't finish up until 9.30pm. Naomi Fox spent most of her life in Galway, moving here from Tralee when she was three. Her father was born here and grew up in Eyre Street. She was educated in Taylor's Hill, but she took a break from education after finishing school. Naomi's mother passed away 11 years ago and she decided it was a good time to go back to education after that. She went to NUIG and studied Legal Science and Philosophy. On leaving NUIG, she took a job as a medical sales representative with Abbott. "At the time, I thought that was the best career move, and for the perks associated with it." This was her career up until early last year when she decided to take a step back and spend more of her time with her young family, Aoibhe (6), Brendan (4) and Charlie (2). However, Galway will be seeing a lot more of Naomi soon, as she will be representing ‘The West' in the All-Ireland Talent Show at the end of the month. Naomi was one of Daithi O Se's picks from the array of talent who put themselves forward for the show. It a venture into the unknown for the young mother. "I love singing but was never in bands or musical societies or the like. When I was younger, I used sing into the hairbrush in the bedroom and I do it at home, singing around the house. But that was the size of it. "Secretly I guess watching programmes like the All-Ireland Talent show, I was wishing they were around when I was younger, but I never thought I would do it at this point. So far it has been really good fun." Naomi has been instrumental in setting up the Motor Neuron Disease Association of Galway, as she found she wanted to do a little more while minding her family. "My mother passed away from Motor Neuron Disease 11 years ago and last year I got a call from the national association. They were fantastic when mum was sick and a really good help. They told me they wanted to set up little fund-raising branches around the country. I felt I could add something, so I got involved." Naomi is the PR for the Galway branch and her sister Karla is the secretary. They are hoping to garner support and raise public awareness of the association and the disease. But Naomi is focused at the moment. "I'm not a competitive person, but now that I'm in the Talent Show, I'm not just going to half do it. I intend on doing well." Naomi's progress can be followed on her new website www.naomifox.tv. |
