"The first two marathons have gone great, although it has been very emotional. It used to be a dream in my head and now it's real! It was very tough on the head leaving for the first two trips, especially leaving my family. When I think about how hard it is going to be, I am terrified! But because of the difference it is going to make to these people, it will be worth it. It's not just me that is making this sacrifice, it is a family challenge. I am lucky to have a lot of support behind me."

In his spare time, Johnny loves to spend as much time as possible with his four kids and wife Aisling. Johnny's music career is also going from strength to strength and he says that there was never a Plan B when it came to what he was going to do with his life.

"I fell into playing the drums by accident really. I picked up a drum at one stage and that was it. I never did the Leaving Cert because I had no interest in doing anything else. I've been lucky to play with so many great bands and I really enjoy what I do. I've never been a fan of the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle really. When I was on tour with The Saw Doctors, my routine was very different and I was a bit of a loner. I used to take off cycling and then chill out in the tour bus with a herbal tea!"

Following a fundraising ball in the Radisson SAS last weekend, Johnny is now gearing up for the third stretch of his journey, taking part in the Turin Marathon on Sunday 13 April. For more information or to make a donation to this great cause, check out www.runjohnnyrun.ie.
