Cathy continued to work with Citylink, developing their customer service and when the outstanding Managing Director left the company, she took over the position.

“I love my job. This is our busiest time of the year and things can get very crazy. It’s very difficult to describe a typical day because it depends on a number of factors; one call in the morning can completely change that day. We could have a vehicle down or be delayed by a road accident and that will have an impact on six or seven different services. You have to make split second decisions to make sure everything runs smoothly.

“My favourite part of the job is when you get feedback from customers and you manage to use that to make improvements to the service. I’m based in Galway and I don’t always know what is needed in Cork or Limerick, so it is great to get that feedback from the customers,” she says.

In her spare time, Cathy is a fan of the outdoors and likes to cycle and walk as well as hill walking.

“I am a very outdoor person, and I have just returned from a cycling holiday with my mother who is 72 years of age. I like to be active and would hate a holiday where I was just lying on a beach for ten days!”

Cathy now lives in Briarhill, with no plans to return to the North in the future.

“I love living on the Tuam Road, even though my friends all say that I live in the sticks! Even if I’m away for the weekend, I can’t wait to come back. Galway is my home now and I wouldn’t dream of moving!”
