Name: David Muldoon
Location: Tuam Road
Occupation: Community Organiser, ISPCC
Favourite thing about Galway: The variety of people and there is always something to do.
Worst thing about Galway: Traffic - seems to be getting worse and worse.

The travel bug has always been in David Muldoon’s blood. After studying Commerce in NUI, Galway, David decided to spread his wings and visit Spain, but after being offered as position in Navan, he returned to Ireland where he spent a year as a marketing executive.

From sales in Navan to travelling the world, David Muldoon has done it all. However, he only found true professional contentment when he started working with the Irish Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC).

However it wasn’t long before David felt like a change of pace. He decided to leave his job and go travelling. Before leaving, he completed a course on teaching English as a foreign language and after touring the world, he returned to Barcelona where he began teaching Business English to companies in the city.

“Barcelona is a great city; it was a great experience and nice to get away and experience a different culture. But I was always going to return to Ireland, so when I got offered a job teaching at the Atlantic Language School in Galway, I made my mind up to come back,” he says.

Charity work had always been something that David had been interested in and, following his return home, he decided to do something about it.

“I wanted to do something. It may sound like a cliché but I wanted to give something back. I knew that the ISPCC had an office in Galway, so I kept an eye on the website and when the role of community fundraiser came up, I decided to go for it. I thought it would be a good combination of my business background and the teaching side of things. It just appealed to me on so many levels,” he says.

David has now held the position for six months and his enthusiasm is still evident. He says that, as the role of community fundraiser was a new one, it entailed a lot of hard work to get things up and running.
