Pieta House founder Joan Freeman will be at the Galway Bay Hotel this Monday to launch the Galway Darkness Into Light 5K Walk, which takes place on Saturday 12 May.
Ms Freeman will speak about the work of Pieta House and their aim to eventually have a Pieta House crisis centre no more than 100 miles from everyone in Ireland.
The aim of Darkness into Light is to raise funds, as well as increase awareness about suicide and self-harm intervention. On Saturday 12 May, thousands of people across the country will gather at 4am and walk, run or jog from the darkness into the dawn light. The walk is symbolic of the work that Pieta House do, bringing people from the darkness into the light.
Pieta House is a suicide and self-harm crisis centre and is the only organisation in the country providing a professional, face to face, free of charge therapeutic service for people in the acute stages of suicidal distress.
The primary aim of Pieta House is to reduce suicide by helping people get through that critical phase when suicide becomes a plan rather than just an idea.
Ms Freeman’s talk will take place at the Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill on Monday 30 April at 10am.
