Students from one of Philadelphia’s most prestigious schools will perform two concerts in Galway City and County as part of a three city tour of Ireland.
Springside Chestnut Hill Academy Youth Choral and Orchestral Ensemble will perform in the beautifully restored Gothic Church, Kylemore Abbey on Sunday 18 June at 1pm and in medieval St. Nicholas Collegiate Church, Galway on Monday 19 June at 11am. Both concerts are free admission.
Springside Chestnut Hill Academy’s choral and orchestral ensemble has received many honours in the US, winning consecutive first place citations at various adjudications. They have performed in concert tours, participated in masterclasses at Westminster Choir College and performed with renowned soprano Frederica von Stade as well as appearing on The 10! Show.
Performing for the Irish tour will be the 28 member mixed voice SATB chamber choir and two equal voice choirs – the Laurelie and the Hilltones. The chamber choir will perform contemporary choral music and modern choral music while the equal voice ensembles will delight with renditions of favourites from the popular music repertoire.
There are also 23 orchestral students playing in the Springside Chestnut Hill Academy Orchestra and audiences in St. Nicholas will be able to hear this orchestra performing as part of the concert.
The choirs and orchestra are conducted by a team of dedicated teachers and musicians including Roland Woehr and Meghan Curry (choral directors) and Katie Bechthold and Matt Brandt (Orchestra Directors).
As part of their concert tour the Choirs and Orchestra will also perform in St. Mary’s Cathedral Kilkenny and Christchurch Cathedral Dublin on Friday 16 June. In addition they will play a special joint concert with the students of Scoil Una Naofa, Crumlin in Dublin on Monday 19 June (6pm).
