Have you been affected by stroke or do you know somebody who has? The Irish Heart Foundation is calling on the public to celebrate life after stroke by nominating stroke survivors to be honoured at the charity’s third annual Stroke Awards
Sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim, The Irish Heart Foundation’s Stroke Awards this November will pay tribute to the courage and bravery of stroke survivors and their carers from all around the country.
Last year’s winners included one-year-old stroke survivor Leo Garry, who received a Children’s Bravery Award after bravely battling a stroke brought on by complications from chicken pox.
Young Leo’s courageous fight inspired those around him. “Leo is the most amazing child I’ve ever witnessed, he kept us going through the worst time in our lives,” said mother Niamh. “I hope Leo winning this award helps other parents to know that stroke can happen to young children too and to watch out for any signs.”
Irish Heart Foundation Stroke Award nominations are now open and the categories include Young People’s Bravery Awards, Adult Bravery Awards, Carer’s Award and the Boehringer Ingelheim Stroke Champion Award.
Speaking about their involvement in the awards, Colin Edwards, Head of National Medicine/General Manager, Boehringer Ingelheim Ireland said the company is proud to support this year’s Stroke Awards and to recognise those inspirational individuals who are faced with the challenges of stroke on a daily basis.
“Boehringer Ingelheim is committed to improving therapies for the prevention and treatment of stroke, a condition that affects approximately 10,000 patients and their families in Ireland every year,” he said.
If a member of your community has shown exceptional courage after surviving a stroke, or has gone above and beyond the call of duty in caring for someone affected by stroke, then the Irish Heart Foundation urges you to submit a nomination by visiting their website www.stroke.ie or contact Emma Jane Morrissey at the Irish Heart Foundation for a nomination form on 01-668 5001 or email firstname.lastname@example.org The closing date for nominations is Friday 21 September.
