Mixed weather in store

Wednesday, 17th May, 2017 1:01am

It was blue skies and glorious sunshine in Galway last week but it seems the summer weather is gone almost as quick as it came, with rainfall warnings in place on Monday and Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall of up to 70mm fell in some areas and Met √Čireann are now forecasting mixed weather conditions over the next few days and into the weekend.

According to the national forecaster, the next few days will be cool with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered heavy showers.

Today (Wednesday) will be a bright, fresh day with sunny spells and scattered showers, some of them heavy. There will be top temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees.

Thursday and Friday will be bright, fresh days with some sunny spells but overall we can expect a good deal of cloud with local heavy, thundery downpours likely. It will be rather cool with maximum temperatures only in the low to mid-teens and the nights chilly again with temperatures ranging from 3 to 7 degrees.

The same weather pattern will continue into this weekend and early next week. Some sunny spells will occur but some further heavy showers of rain or hail can also be expected with a risk of some thundery downpours. It will be cool with temperatures in the low to mid-teens and the nights chilly.
