A “mini-regeneration” of Gilmartin Road, Tuam is to be rolled out in the near future.
Senator Lorraine Higgins said this week that Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Alan Kelly had confirmed the Local Authority is to start a mini-regeneration “soon” at Gilmartin Road that will see more new social houses built, and that these will be done alongside improved approaches to estate management.
“I’m glad to be able to support an innovative scheme which will relieve pressure on housing in Tuam through the delivery of new and affordable social housing. It is particularly welcome that the Minister is putting improved management of properties in the area at the heart of the plan,” said Senator Higgins.
“However, I do feel it is important that the residents, neighbours, future residents, architects, developers, local planners all work out a scheme together so everyone has buy in regarding the future of their area. I have contacted Galway County Council to ensure this happens so people’s vision of their area can be encompassed in this grand plan.”
