It took a replay and extra-time, but Mountbellew/Moylough have finally sealed their spot in the quarter-final of the Galway SFC, thanks to Joe Bergin’s extra-time goal. Lining out without the injured former All-Ireland winner Derek Savage, Cortoon Shamrocks made the most of a strong wind in the first-half, but it was Mountbellew/Moylough that struck early with a goal from Paul Donnellan.
Cortoon’s first scored didn’t arrive until 15 minutes in when Mickey Costello landed a point. But from then on to the break, they outscored Mountbellew/Moylough by six points to one. Three consecutive points from Bergin saw Mountbellew/Moylough level shortly after the restart and after the sides finished full-time at 1-6 to 0-9 the thrilling extra-time ensued.
