Toyota strong in Euro first half E-mail

Toyota Motor Europe sold a total of 661,753 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the period from January to June 2007, an increase of 14% over the same period in 2006. The overall European car market was up approximately 2.2%.

Toyota Group's overall market share for the first six months was up 0.6 percentage points to 5.8% compared with the same period last year. In the period January-June, Toyota produced 415,152 cars, 444,736 engines and 294,993 transmissions at its plants in the United Kingdom, France, Turkey, Poland and the Czech Republic.

Similar results have been experienced in Ireland as Toyota Ireland received a 14% increase in sales over the same period in 2006 and have experienced an increase in their market share within Ireland to 15%.

The Toyota brand's strongest performers for the January-June period included the Auris, which has performed above expectation with 66,924 units already sold; the Yaris (144,549 units sold; +11% compared to the same period last year); the Avensis (73,328 units sold; +2%); and the Corolla sedan, (45,267 units sold; + 69%).

Meanwhile sales of the hybrid Prius, which was awarded number one in J.D. Power's 2007 Customer Satisfaction Study in the U.K., Germany and France, jumped 53% to 16,421 units to set a first half sales record. Total Toyota and Lexus combined hybrid sales reached a new high of 24,870 units sold, up 38% from the same January-June period last year, incorporating the launch of the hybrid LS 600h in June. Total Lexus sales for the six-month period reached 28,929 units, up 7% from the same period last year, boosted by the launch of the LS 460 in January.

For 2007, Toyota has set a European sales target of 1.16 million units in Toyota brand sales and 56,000 units in Lexus sales.
