Toyota continued ahead of Ford in the February registration figures for new car sales issued by Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI). Toyota held a 14.1 per cent share of the new car market, with Ford at 12.5 per cent closely followed at 12.3 per cent by Volkswagen. Ford was the best-selling vehicle brand in Ireland for the second month in a row. While the vehicle market dipped 9.4 per cent on the same month last year, Ford registered a rise in sales of 8.6 per cent. Total industry sales year-to-date, at 86,718 units, are 3.3 per cent down on 2007. Commercial vehicle sales were also down, by 9.9 per cent to 5,588 units.
