The Daihatsu Terios sport utility has been voted a '4x4 Of The Year' winner for the second year running following tough testing by the specialist '4x4' magazine. The 1.5 litre, five-door, five-seat Daihatsu now holds the title of: 'Budget Class Winner ? 2008'.

Launched as a totally new model last summer, the Terios already holds the title of 'Compact/Affordable Category Winner ? 2007'.

The Daihatsu Terios has been 4x4 Of The Year in the 4x4 Magazine budget class award category.

The Terios beat all major rivals such as the Fiat Sedici 4x4, smaller Fiat Panda 4x4 and even larger and more expensive all-wheel drive models such as the Volkswagen Golf 4 Motion.

Key criteria for the judges were a car combining practicality with driving enjoyment, value for money and ? of course ? genuine off-road character.

The magazine editorial said: "No one-trick pony, the Terios has an array of talents." It added: "The modern, rounded styling blends perfectly with traditional 4x4 features, such as the classic tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Ground clearance is fine for deepish ruts, and an electronic diff-lock enhances traction when the auto 4WD needs it."

Commenting on the award, Daihatsu Ireland General Manager, Eddie Kavanagh, said: "This accolade endorses the Terios's popularity. While Daihatsu vehicle sales are up a remarkable 84% this year, the Terios with an increase of 111 per cent makes the major contribution to our success."

Currently available from €23,745, the Daihatsu Terios 4WD boasts a high standard of specification including alloy wheels, power-steering, ABS, full-time four-wheel drive with electronic centre diff-lock, driver and passenger airbags, radio/CD player, four electric windows, electric mirrors, front fog lamps, roof rails and body coloured bumpers and door handles. A 2WD model is also available from €22,745.
