Fiat has boosted the engine power of its Grande Punto model with the arrival of the new Grande Punto 1.4 16v T-jet 120. The newcomer produces impressive performance and great driving enjoyment, hardly surprising from an engine putting out 120bhp, delivering torque of 206 Nm (152 lb ft) @ 2000 rpm, a top speed of 195 km/h and acceleration from 0 – 100 km/h in just 8.9 seconds.
But that’s only one side of the story: the same car can cover 100km on just 5.4 litres of petrol (that’s 52.3 mpg) and the emission levels are noticeably lower than you would expect from such a high-performance car, at only 155 g/km. The secret is the new T-jet 16 valve turbo engine using the latest Fiat technology. This is the smallest turbo engine in this class. It’s the most powerful sub-1400 cc engine available; it develops highest torque at low revs for any engine up to 140hp and it has the best acceleration for any engine up to 140hp. Standard equipment for all Sportline ‘Dynamic Team’ models includes ABS, 6 airbags, air con, leather steering wheel, spoiler and side-skirts. All Sportsline ‘Sporting’ versions offer all of the above equipment plus sports seats, chrome tailpipe, 17“ alloys and Blue&Me, Fiat Group’s hands-free voice activated in-car communications and entertainment system developed in association with Microsoft. The 1.4 T-jet Sporting will be equipped with ESP as standard. Recommended retail prices for the new 1.4 16v T-jet 120 versions are: Dynamic Team 3dr- €18,795; Dynamic Team 5dr- €19,295; Sporting 3dr-€19,845. Other models in this Grande Punto Sportline range include Active Go! 1.4 8v 3dr and 5dr) from €15,395, Dynamic Team 1.2 8v, 1.4 8v, 1.4 16v, 1.3 Multijet 70bhp 3dr and 5ds from €16,145 and Sporting (1.4 16v and 1.3 Multijet 90bhp 3drs) from €18,495. |
