Skoda has broadened the appeal of their Octavia range with the introduction of a new 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder TSI engine. More powerful than the 2.0-litre, 150bhp unit it replaces, the new 1.8-litre/ 160bhp engine reduces the price of the Octavia by bringing it into a lower VRT category.
Better in every department, it delivers more power, higher top speed (223km/h versus 213km/h), and faster 0 - 100 km/h acceleration (8.1secs versus 9.3secs), more torque (250Nm versus 200Nm), better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.
Prices begin at €24,290 ex works in Ambiente specifications (a figure below that of many 1.6-litre competitors) and €25,845 in Elegance form. A highly equipped top-of-the-range L&K version targeted at business buyers comes at €31,680. A Combi estate version is also available.
