The Seat factory near Barcelona in Spain has announced the production of its six millionth car. The actual car was a white Ibiza Ecomotive equipped with an 80hp 1.4 TDI engine. It is the most environmentally-friendly car (just 99 g/km of CO2) that the Spanish brand has ever produced. Since it was officially opened in 1993, the Martorell plant has gradually improved the quality and volume of its products. Initially designed for production of 1,500 units per day, it currently puts out 2,000 cars daily. In its first year of production only two models rolled off its lines: the SEAT Ibiza and the C?rdoba. Now seven different models are manufactured on three different platforms, making SEAT a pioneer within the Volkswagen Group. Currently the factory produces all models in the SEAT range, except for the Alhambra, which is built at the Volkswagen Group plant in Palmela in Portugal. |
