Volkswagen has re-launched the Scirocco model to the Irish market, with three petrol and two diesel engine options. Prices start at €28,000 before delivery charges.

The new two-door Scirocco is a completely re-engineered all-round sports car. Inspired by the idea of creating an affordable sports car for everyday use, it marries top technology and low running costs to dynamic performance with high comfort levels.

Thanks to an elongated roof line, the new Scirocco is credited with having a surprisingly spacious interior within an uncompromising sporty design, with ample room inside for four adults. It is driven by a selection of five high-torque, low-consumption TDI common rail diesel and TSI engines. Amongst its innovative features are adaptive chassis control and the availability of 7-speed DSG transmission within the model mix.

When fully available, the Scirocco model offering will consist of three petrol and two common rail diesel versions. Petrol models begin with a 2.0-litre TSI 200bhp unit priced from €34,710 before delivery charges. This version comes with a choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG transmission.

Following shortly will be a 1.4-litre TSI 122bhp unit with 6-speed manual transmission and a 1.4-litre TSI 160bhp unit with 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG transmission. Though final prices have yet to be agreed, they are expected to range from €28,000 for the 1.4-litre 122bhp version.

Diesel versions will begin with a turbo-charged 2.0-litre common Rail 140bhp unit with a choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG transmission. This will be followed by a 2.0 TDI 170bhp unit with a choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG transmission.

A comprehensive list of over 40 standard features includes ESP, front, side and curtain airbags, remote central locking, electronic immobiliser, air conditioning, cruise control, leather steering wheel and alloy wheels. There is a choice of ten body colours.

Optional equipment items include a panoramic electric tilting sunroof, park distance control, tyre pressure monitor, car phone preparation, satellite navigation, enhanced audio package, mirror and light and vision packages to name but some.
