A new warning on the use of biofuels has come from a leading scientist and UK Government adviser. Professor Robert Watson, the chief scientist at the UK Department of the Environment, has warned that the drive towards encouraging the use of biofuels to power vehicles could cause more harm to the environment than good.
He said that new regulations designed to cut carbon dioxide emissions should be postponed while a review of the impact of biofuels is carried out. He said: "It would obviously be totally insane if we had a policy to try to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that's actually leading to an increase in the greenhouse gases from biofuels."
