Toyota in Ireland has reported that the 1,000 Prius hybrid car has been registered over the past week. Nine hundred and sixty of the registered cars are second generation Toyota Prius, as introduced to the Irish market in 2004. One hundred and fifty Toyota Prius vehicles have been sold so far this year, marking a 50 per cent increase over the same period last year. Cumulative global sales of the Toyota Prius have topped the 610,000 mark since its launch to market. Toyota launched the Prius, the world’s first mass-produced hybrid vehicle, in Japan in 1997 and began selling it in North America, Europe and elsewhere in 2000. |
