Opel has launched the new Antara model to the Irish market and the entry version with a 2.0 litre turbo-diesel engine comes with a starting price of ?37,350 before delivery charges.

After a number of absent years, Opel again stakes a claim as a leader among volume manufacturers in the SUV segment with the new Opel Antara. The new Antara comes with what Opel calls intelligent four-wheel drive as standard, the five-seat four-wheel drive crossover boasts the handling of a passenger car, generous interior space yet compact dimensions. It uses similar seating options to the Zafira in a Flex-Fix concept with claims of high levels of functionality and a raised seat position.

Opel expects that the top seller in the range will be the 2.0-litre common-rail 16v turbo-diesel model which delivers 150hp and 320Nm of torque. It comes with a maintenance-free particulate filter as standard.

This diesel model has been refined thanks to optimized engine calibration which now offers improved starting performance. There is also an automatic option with the 2.0-litre diesel.

The entry-level petrol engine for the Antara is a 2.4-litre model delivering 140hp and 220Nm of torque from a four-cylinder unit.

The Antara's four-wheel drive system combines the benefits of front-wheel drive, such as traction stability when accelerating and increased driving dynamics, with those of permanent four-wheel drive. It features an electronically controlled electro-hydraulic differential which to ensure optimal torque distribution between the front and rear axles in all situations. The engine and transmission is fully integrated in the ABS and ESP systems, enhancing vehicle control and active safety.

The entry price for the diesel powered Opel Antara SUV, Opel's first 4x4 since the Frontera, is starting from €37,350 before delivery charges.
