Ford's new Fiesta and the Ford Fusion are the latest Ford models, which have been awarded with an official 'allergy-tested' seal, first achieved by the Ford C-MAX in 2004. Now all Ford cars have been certified for their allergy friendly interior. ![]() Ford's new Fiesta model due here soon is the latest Ford model to be awarded an official allergy test seal by TUV, the German test body. The award adds to new Fiesta's impressive sustainability credentials, which already include Ford's most frugal car ever, the 3.7l/100km Fiesta ECOnetic (sub-100g/km CO2), plus weight savings and efficiency improvements for lower fuel consumption and emissions across the range. In total, nine Ford cars are now certified by TÜV – the German standards and certification body – including current Ka model, new Fiesta, Fusion, Focus, C-MAX, Kuga, Mondeo, S MAX and Galaxy. Ford remains the only car manufacturer in the world whose products carry official TÜV allergy-friendly certification. Extensive, scientifically verifiable tests are conducted for the assessment by the TÜV, including analysis of more than 100 materials and components for harmful substances or allergy-causing potential. As part of Ford's development programme for vehicle interiors, Ford engineers reduce to the absolute minimum the use of materials such as latex, chrome and nickel that can provoke allergic reactions in some people. Additionally, all components likely to have direct and prolonged skin contact, such as the steering wheel, seat covers and seat belts, are dermatologically tested. Vehicles are also equipped with high-performance pollen filters that prevent allergic pollens from entering the car's interior and ensure a high level of cabin air quality. "Ireland is close to top of the world league in terms of asthma sufferers as a percentage of our population – there are almost half a million Irish people with asthma," commented Denis McSweeney, Director of Marketing, Ford Ireland. "Now that our full range of cars has official allergy friendly certification, we can have a positive impact on that very sizeable segment of our community whose asthma is very easily triggered by allergies. We see allergy-friendliness as sitting alongside energy reduction, low emissions and recyclability in the broader issue of sustainability for Ford." |
