Thirty of Mazda Motor Ireland's most popular models will undergo significant VRT reductions from 1 July, according to the company. This has been attributed to the light-weight strategy adopted when developing Mazda's newest models, the Mazda2 and Mazda6, ensuring the low CO2 emissions and beneficial fuel economy. The Mazda6 diesel models will have price reductions up to €3,100.

Prices for the new Mazda6 2.0 litre diesel should drop by over €3,000 following the VRT tax changes on 1 July, according to the company.

The Mazda2, 2008 World Car of the Year, bucked the trend from many competitors in the B segment by shedding up to 100kgs of weight, resulting in low C02 emissions of 114g for the 1.4D model and 129g for the 1.3 petrol model, placing these Mazda2 models in the lowest VRT bands of A & B respectively.

While Mazda Motor Ireland expects an increase in retail sales of their diesel models, petrol models will continue their overall popularity due to VRT price reductions in their efficiently engineered MZR petrol engines. Mazda2 1.3L petrol models see a significant fall in VRT with prices starting now from €14,495.

Mazda6 1.8L and 2.0L petrol models enjoy noteworthy reductions; the 1.8L Mazda6 Executive model will now start from €26,995. Its light-weight strategy, in conjunction with vastly improved aerodynamic performance due to the sleek design, has resulted in one of the lowest C02 levels in its class of 159g for a 1.8L petrol model.

"Customers will benefit from significant price reductions as a result of Mazda's extensive R&D strategy to reduce vehicle weight of new Mazda products as a way to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, while delivering the agile handling and safety," explained David McGonigle, Managing Director, Mazda Motor Ireland.
