Audi is forecasting a July date for the Irish arrival of the new Audi A4 Avant. The new model boasts the largest-in-class load area, which can be extended from 490 litres up to 1,430 litres. The new A4 Avant will be available in the same choice of models with the same specifications and same engine range available in the A4 Saloon. Additional features include roof rails, 60/40 split folding rear seat and a 12-volt socket located in the luggage area.

Audi plans to introduce the new A4 Avant by July next. Prices will be at a premium of about €2,400 over the saloon model.

The new model will feature an optional powered tailgate. Loads can be secured using the standard luggage net and tie-down straps or with the extra-cost telescopic bar and securing belt system first seen in the A6 Avant.

Audi reports that a new generation of economical engines will power the new Avant. As with the A4 saloon, they consist of two petrol units and three common rail TDI diesel units.

Petrol versions are a 1.8-litre TFSI of 120bhp and 160bhp output and a 265bhp 3.2-litre FSI. Diesel units include the high-volume 2.0-litre TDI, 143bhp unit plus two V6 units of 2.7-litre TDI, 190bhp and 3.0-litre TDI, 240bhp capacity. High-spec SE and Sport models also form part of the new A4 Avant programme.

Six-speed manual, Multitronic, and six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and quattro permanent four-wheel-drive forms part of the product offering, as does Audi's acclaimed MMI operating system and automatic air conditioning with three-zone control.

Other new technology features include Audi Drive Select, which allows the driver to adjust the operating characteristics of the engine, and Audi dynamic steering that can be used to vary steering ratios according to road speed. These are available as optional extras.

In price terms, each new A4 Avant will carry a premium of €2,400 over the equivalent A4 saloon launched recently.
